Rihanna Singer

Rihanna Singer is the solo project of R&B artist, Saad Saad, who also performs under the moniker, SAS. His songwriting and production credits include the number-one single, “Diamonds,” and the Grammy-nominated album, “Only One.” He currently lives in Los Angeles, where he writes and produces songs for various artists.

Music Career

While still in high school, Saad began performing with the pop group, The Next Big Thing. They released an EP in 2008, which was followed by their debut album, ‘’All or Nothing’’ in 2009. The album was an immediate hit and featured the Top 10 single “Gotta Give It Up.” After The Next Big Thing disbanded in 2011, Saad continued pursuing a musical career and released his first solo single “Can’t Keep Running.” He then signed with RCA Records, and released his debut album, ‘’Blue Lights’’ in 2012. The album became his first number-one album on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.

Art Career

As a child, Saad was more interested in drawing and painting than listening to music, but his passion for art eventually led to a career in the field. He began his art career as a designer, creating costumes and sets for dancers, in particular for his friend and collaborator, Marc Jacobs. He then went on to design costumes for a number of high-profile individuals, including Lady Gaga and Celine Dion.

Personal Life

Rihanna Singer is the daughter of Sheila and Michael Singer. Her father is an art dealer and artist, while her mother is a makeup artist. She has a younger brother, Zach. In an interview with Vogue in 2012, Rihanna described her childhood as, “very, very normal”. She added that her family, especially her father, was very supportive of her and the music career choice that she had made. She also noted that they often listened to Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston songs, which probably didn’t help in the decision-making process.

Style

Rihanna is best known for her distinctive fashion choices; however, it would be a disservice to simply describe her as an apparel brand. With her distinctive fashion styles and unique perspectives on style, she often invites comparison to the style icons that she cites as her own inspirations: Grace Kelly, Isabella Rossellini, and Marjorie Merriweather Post. She wears her wealth of influences on her sleeve and in her every day style.

Rihanna’s look is a bold, brimming with confidence and character. However, her confidence is not solely reserved for the attire that she chooses to wear. She has been known to wear a plain T-shirt with a bold graphic on the front or back with jeans or any dark colored pants in an effort to keep it simple but intriguing. She also frequently plays with textures, mixing faux-fur with leather and silk. When she does wear fur, she usually chooses faux-fur blended with real animal hair.

Favorite Fashion Icon

When asked about her favorite fashion icon, Rihanna cited Marc Jacobs. She has worked with the designer on multiple occasions and has referred to him as her “fashion Godfather.” In an interview with Vogue in 2012, she cited Jacobs’ influence on her early design work and detailed the designer’s impact on her style: “Marc is very much about layering and texture and the way that he can bring out the best in a woman. I always feel like I can be the best that I can be when I’m working with him. We have a shorthand in terms of what we’re going for.”

Fashion Inspirations

In addition to Marc Jacobs, Rihanna has cited a number of stylish women and men as her fashion inspirations. These include:

  • Karl Lagerfeld
  • Tom Ford
  • Dior
  • Louis Vuitton
  • Michael Jackson
  • Giorgio Armani
  • Emilio Pucci
  • Mikimoto

Fashion Philosophy

When asked about her fashion philosophy, Rihanna noted that she tries to stay true to herself and not copy or base her style on anyone else. She explained that she does not believe in fashion statements or gimmicks, but instead focuses on having fun with fashion: “I don’t like to keep up with the trends, but I really like to have fun with fashion. Sometimes I feel like people will come up to me and say, ‘Oh, you look so cool,’ and then I’ll think, ‘No, I’m pretty sure that I’m not!’ Fashion is personal and it’s fun. When people start copying me, it makes me really happy.”

Despite her playful attitude towards fashion, Rihanna is not immune to trends. She has spoken about how she gets inspired by what she sees on the runway and in magazines. She has also cited Kate Middleton as one of her biggest style inspirations: “I always love watching her and thinking, ‘I can’t believe how she manages to look so stunning all the time!’ I admire her so much. I’m constantly inspired by her. As a woman, she always does something that makes me say, ‘Why didn’t I think of that?’”

Rihanna’s style has been compared to that of her mega-star parent and collaborator, R&B singer, A-La-Mode Alexander McQueen, whose work she has cited as one of her main influences. McQueen was a designer who designed clothes for some of the most prominent individuals in the world. Although Rihanna has never worked with McQueen, the comparison is inevitable. Like McQueen, Rihanna’s style is opulent and luxurious. Her preference for darker colors such as black, navy, and brown is also reminiscent of McQueen. Her elegant yet understated style makes her one of the most attractive and desirable women in the world, and her fashion choices are no different.
