Christina Aguilera

Christina Aguilera is one of the most famous and influential female pop musicians of all time. Aside from her musical career, Aguilera has also become well known for her fashion style and philanthropic work. In this interview, we will discuss her life and times, as well as her impact on the music industry and beyond.

Early Life And Family

Christina Aguilera was born in Revere, Massachusetts, on October 16, 1969, to the iconic singer John and his wife, Rita. As a child, Aguilera had a very close relationship with her father, who was a constant presence in her life. She also enjoyed classical music as a kid and would often sing along to the radio. When she was 12 years old, Aguilera started taking ballet classes and later joined the American Ballet Theatre. It was during one of her semi-regular performances with the company that she was first discovered, and a month later, she won the part of Cherie in The Cherie Blair Project. The theater piece was so successful that it was made into a movie, named after its protagonist. Aguilera earned positive reviews for her performance in the movie, despite having originally been cast in the role of Marilyn Monroe.

Musical Career

Following the success of the Cherie Blair movie, Christina Aguilera’s career started to take off. She signed with Arista Records and released her first album, titled Christina Aguilera, in November 1991. That same year, she also landed her first hit single, ‘90s Pop Phenomenon’, which was also the first single from the album. The track peaked at number three on the Billboard Hot 100, and it remains one of Aguilera’s most popular and recognizable songs. The song was so successful that it launched Aguilera’s career into overdrive as her subsequent albums all entered the Billboard Top 10. Additionally, ‘90s Pop Phenomenon’ was later featured in the movie Office Space, where the song was performed by Carmen Electra. In 1997, Aguilera released her tenth album, Back to Basics, which reached number four on the Billboard Top 100. It was the follow-up to her commercially and critically successful self-titled album, which was in fact her biggest selling album to date.

Philanthropy

Aside from her music career, Christina Aguilera has also become well known for her philanthropic efforts. She is the international spokesperson for the ‘Grow Your Own’ campaign, which encourages children around the world to grow their own food and save it for later. Kids can also participate in the challenge by making their own garden. In 2016, Aguilera launched her own clothing line, XCHNG, to support the ‘Grow Your Own’ campaign. The collection is designed to help children express themselves and their creativity. On a more personal note, in 2003, she donated $100,000 to the victims of the hurricanes that ravaged Texas and Louisiana that year.

Style

Even prior to her music career, Christina Aguilera had an already unique fashion style. When she was 12 years old, her mother bought her a hair-dressing kit, which consisted of a hair straightener and curling iron. Although Aguilera’s hair is naturally wavy, she started styling it with the help of the kit. As she grew older, Aguilera’s taste in fashion started to change. She began to expressively layer her clothing and experiment with different hairstyles and makeup looks, often using products that were inspired by nature. She began to regularly wear head to toe pink outfits – something that was very unusual at the time. In an interview with Vogue, Aguilera said, “I loved wearing pretty, bold outfits as a teen, and I still do. However, now that I’m an adult, I like to keep things a little more sophisticated. I always believe in expressing myself through my clothing.”

Honorary Degrees

Christina Aguilera was given a number of honorary degrees, including a Ph.D. in Music from Roosevelt University in 2003. In 2016, she was given an honorary degree in Humanities by the College of Charleston. To this day, Aguilera continues to evolve her style and is still experimenting with new looks. She also keeps a close eye on current trends, as well as those that came before.
