Angelina Jolie

She may not always get the credit she deserves, but it’s fair to say that Angelina Jolie is a key figure in the evolution of modern beauty. When it comes to fashion, makeup, and beauty technology, the 42-year-old actress, director, and entrepreneur is never far from the forefront.

Fashion

Jolie is often credited with introducing luxury beauty products to the masses, and for being one of the first big name celebrities to endorse a beauty brand. From her makeup collection for L’Oreal to her starring role in Netflix’s popular show “Oma,” the actress is credited with changing the perception of beauty in an instant. And she’s not finished yet.

In January 2022, Jolie will be the face of Dior. According to the French fashion house, Jolie “embodies the feminine charm of the House of Dior and is the ideal candidate to introduce our vision to women around the world.”

Makeup

Jolie has long been a proponent of sustainable beauty and green practices, and in 2020, she partnered with the makeup brand Urban Decay to create a limited edition collection of vegan products. In addition to being cruelty-free and sustainable, the makeup products contain a number of cool innovations that allow for better blending and application. As a result, the line is much easier to use than traditional products—which is especially beneficial for those with sensitive skin or those who want to avoid running into cosmetic problems.

Technology

Jolie is an early adopter when it comes to technology and in 2021, she became one of the first celebrities to be directly represented by a digital agency, Reputable Media, which ensures she always has a representative available to help with any of her needs. In 2022, Jolie’s publicist confirmed she has a team of people who help her navigate the tech world, including someone who handles her Twitter.

The actress is also an avid user of TikTok, where she has over 16 million followers. In early June 2021, she launched a makeup collection specifically for TikTok users, aptly named “TikTok Lipstick.” The collection is designed to make celebrities more accessible to followers, who can interact with the influencers through stickers and GIFs.

Style

The star’s personal style has evolved over the years to take on a more minimalistic approach. When it comes to fashion style, she has said: “I want to be as neutral as possible and not to influence the way people dress. I love to see women wearing something unique and personal that reflects their personality.”

As a kid, Jolie was always keen to experiment with fashion and would often put on her mother’s clothes to see how they looked on her. While growing up, she would often visit her father’s studio, where he taught her to draw and paint. The experience inspired her to pursue a career in art, which she did for a time after graduating from high school. She then studied acting at London’s prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts. In 2018, her agency confirmed she was working on a memoir about her fashion and style influences.

Awards

The star has received a wealth of accolades throughout her career, and in 2020 alone she was nominated for four Academy Award nominations, winning two. According to her agency, Jolie was nominated for roles in “Bad Teacher,” “First Woman,” “Girl on the Train,” and “The Unauthorized Greedy Knight.”

As for her acting career, Jolie received Golden Globe nominations for best actress in a comedy or musical for her role in “Girl on the Train” and in 2019 she was nominated for a Satellite Award for best supporting actress in a series for her work on Netflix’s “Marseille.” In addition to acting, she also received a best supporting actress nomination at the Venice Film Festival for her role in Paolo Sorrentino’s “The Maniac.”

Jolie received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2016, and in 2020 she was appointed a Commander of the British Empire for services to film and television. In 2022, she will be recognized with a star on the famed Walk of Fame for film.

Influences

Although she is often credited as one of the first big names to embrace the luxuries made possible by social media, Jolie’s personal style has actually evolved over time to take on a more minimalistic approach. She has cited a number of influences behind her style evolution, including Katharine Hamnett, whom she met while attending the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London. Hamnett, a British fashion designer, is credited with creating the “boudoir look.”

In an interview with Elle, Jolie said: “I think she [Katharine Hamnett] has influenced my style in every way. First of all, color-wise—I love wearing pale, soft colors like cream, white, or yellow. With my hair and makeup, I try to stay true to what she does: simple, clean, and light. And then with my garments, I like to combine different fabrics and work with interesting but structured silhouettes.”

The designer is also known for her bright, happy colors, and Jolie has said she draws inspiration from her “childhood memories of living in Sydney and the sunny disposition of the people there.” The designer’s vibrant and youthful spirit resonates with the actress, and vice versa.

Jolie has also credited her style evolution to men’s fashion. She has said: “I love the way men dress these days. The way they care for their bodies is so attractive to me. I want to be able to offer that to women, too.”

In 2019, Jolie was named one of the most stylish women in the world by British fashion magazine Glamour. The publication said: “From the red carpet to your daily wear, this award-winning actress has always put her fashion fame on show. Whether she’s teamed classic black dresses with white accents or dressed to the nines in a mix of yellow and black, she’s always stood out.”

Personal Life

Jolie’s personal life is no less interesting than her professional one. In 2011, she underwent a blood transfusion to save her life after giving birth to her fifth child. The actress revealed she had changed her blood type to AB positive after discovering that doctors had underestimated the effect post-partum haemorrhaging could have on her. She said: “It was just luck really that my body was able to produce enough blood for my needs, as it had been irreversibly altered by pregnancy and the post-partum period. It was a happy accident that my body produced enough for both me and my child.”

Jolie has been married four times and has six biological children. In 2015, the actress signed a PDA with journalist and filmmaker James Goldstone, whom she had met while filming “The Tourist.” They have a daughter, Liv (b.2016). Three years later, the family made the grieving process easier for Liv’s mother, Martha Goldstone, by creating a memorial website where she could share photos and videos from Liv’s life. She wrote: “There are no easy answers to this question, but I want to try and make the most of what little time I have left with my daughter. I want to do things that will make her happy and make her smile. I hope that in some small way, this happy place will bring some peace to those who love her so much.”

The family then traveled to the Sri Lanka to help rebuild the country after the 2011 tsunami. While there, they spent time with local children and helped to raise money for Save the Children. In the years since, the actress has been involved with a number of other good causes and has even launched a foundation, CH Happy Earth, which supports children’s health and education in Sri Lanka.
