The Evolution Of An Influential Song

If you’ve ever played music over the past 15 years, it’s pretty likely that you’ve heard of or at least, heard music by Lavigne. This influential singer-songwriter has had an amazing career and is still going strong! Let’s take a quick trip down memory lane and revisit some of the biggest moments in Lavigne’s incredible career.

2006: Let’s Talk About Love

It was 2006 and Lavigne was just 26 years old when she released her debut album, “Let’s Talk About Love.” The album was an instant success, spawning several hit songs and placing #7 on the Billboard Top Heatseekers Albums chart. The lead single “Hello” became an unexpected hit, reaching #2 on the Billboard Top 100 and spending 11 weeks at #1 on the UK Singles Chart. With the success of her debut album, Lavigne was given her own show, “Avril Lavigne,” on the Nickelodeon channel. She also became the first-ever artist featured on the cover of the Billboard magazine. This is when her career started really taking off!

2007: The Confessions Tour

In 2007, Lavigne released her sophomore album, “The Confessions,” which, like her previous album, was an instant hit. It debuted at #3 on the Billboard Top 200 and spawned several hit songs, including the #1 single, “Sk8er Boi.” This is also when she began touring internationally, headlining festivals in Australia and New Zealand as well as shows in Paris and London. She was awarded another Nickelodeon special, this time focusing on her touring and album promotions. From 2008 to 2011, Lavigne would go on to play 15 sold-out shows at Madison Square Garden as well as other major venues such as Radio City Music Hall and the Hollywood Bowl.

2011: The Best Of Both Worlds

2011’s “Best Of Both Worlds” was actually a combination of two separate albums. The first part was a compilation album that featured hit songs from both of Lavigne’s previous albums. The second part was a greatest hits album that included some of her biggest hits as well as some new songs. Lavigne teamed up with her father, Tony, for the first time on a track titled “Family Dinner,” which hit #1 on the Billboard Top 100. The song was written as a message to her fans and was included as a free download with orders of “Let’s Talk About Love” or “The Confessions.”

2012: Top Of The World

The following year, Lavigne released her third studio album, “Top Of The World.” The album included the single “Ghost Town,” which reached #2 on the Billboard Top 100 and stayed in the top 40 for 10 weeks. She also returned to the UK, playing a sold-out show at the Royal Albert Hall. The next day, she played another show in London. A third show was added to the schedule just a few weeks later. In total, she played London five times in 2012 alone. This album has been compared to her debut album, “Let’s Talk About Love,” as it features a more mature sound and deals with heartbreak and hard-earned lessons. It debuted at #42 on the Billboard Top 200 and has since gone on to sell over 100,000 units in the United States alone.

2016: The Best Of Both Worlds 2.0

Four years later, 2014’s “The Best Of Both Worlds 2.0” was yet another collection of hit songs spanning Lavigne’s entire career. “Best Of Both Worlds 2.0” was actually a re-release of “Top Of The World,” featuring two new songs: “Blow Me A Kiss” and “I Fell In Love With A Monster.” The album peaked at #12 on the Billboard Top 200 and stayed in the top 50 for six weeks. Lavigne took home her fourth Grammy for Best Musical Performance at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards. In December of that year, she released a cover of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” as a single, which was later featured on “The Best Of Both Worlds 2.0.”

This brings us to today, where Lavigne is still going strong, releasing new music and touring regularly. She is still one of the most loved and influential singers in pop music and will continue to be for the foreseeable future.
