With Spring fast approaching, designers are starting to show off their warm and welcoming designs for the coming season. One of the most popular fashion trends that is emerging is that of oversized knits. Inspired by the knits seen on the covers of fashion magazines, knitwear labels are releasing patterns and constructing garments in large sizes to bring the fashion look closer to home. While knits are a great choice for the season, not all will be suitable for warm weather so let’s take a look at the best of both worlds!

The Classic Leather Blazer

As well as oversized kurta pajamas and oversized jumpers, the oversized knits trend also extends to accessories with many fashion houses creating larger versions of classic items. One of the best-known designers to adopt this trend is Burberry. For the Fall Winter 2020 collection, the British luxury brand released stunning oversized leather blazers.

The luxury company took the traditional silhouette of the classic blazer – a garment that was first released in the 1950s – and added an element of surprise by constructing the garment in a larger size. Weighing in at a whopping seven pounds, a size XL blazer will feel like an oversize jacket hugging your body tightly while giving you that classic Burberry look.

Oversize Ski Jacket

Another luxury brand that embraced the oversized knits trend was Ralph Lauren. For the 2020 ski season, the American fashion house released a stunning blue oversized knitted ski jacket with gold trim detailing.

The design house drew its inspiration from the French Alps where the ski season is a paradise. The designer added an element of texture by doubling up on the knits within the design. The result is a sporty yet classy look that will have you skiing in no time.

Over-Underneath

Dior is another designer that got in on the action this year with an oversized knitted dress that will make you stand out in the winter chill. The Parisian firm has designed a stunning dress made entirely out of knits, with mesh showing through to highlight the intricate lace patterns.

The design is both sophisticated and sporty at the same time. The over-underneath silhouette means the garment drapes loosely over the torso and the skirt to create an elegant yet sporty look.

Luminous Long Sleeve Tee

The trend doesn’t stop at knits, with many fashion houses choosing to add a touch of luxury to their spring/summer garments by constructing them in a larger size. Most notably, the luxury Italian brand Gucci released a long sleeve shirt pattern that will have you looking stylish and sophisticated as you potter around the house in the coming months.

The brand is a firm favourite of mine and the design of the long sleeve shirt isn’t something I’d normally go for. Typically, I’d choose a pattern with spaghetti straps and a low-waisted design to keep those extra pounds off. However, the long sleeve pattern from Gucci offers something different and I’m sure many of you will want to sport this look as soon as the temperature starts to rise.

The Classic Leather Jeans

Denim is another style that saw the rise of the oversized trend this year. Not only are the fashion houses creating larger sizes of the classic garments, but the trend also extended to accessories with many luxury brands adding suede and leather to their existing range of denim products.

The two-piece classic leather jeans were a huge trend this year with many designers increasing the size of the garment and adding an extra pair of hands for the sewing process. Gucci is one of the best-known luxury denim brands to take this approach with its 2020 collection adding a touch of luxury to its already established range of denim products.

I love a good pair of classic leather jeans as much as the next person but the luxury element here ensures that these are the pieces of wear reserved for special occasions. The look is sophisticated and sexy at the same time with a touch of luxury that makes it stand out from the ordinary.

Exotic Print Dress

Print is another area that saw the rise of the oversized trend this year. It hasn’t been confined to fashion either, with many designers offering luxurious prints for the warmer months.

If there’s one area where the trend did stop, it’s print. However, that doesn’t mean that the fashion houses there are standing still. For example, Miu Miu has designed a two-piece exotic print dress made entirely out of silk that will have you leaving your house in a luxury coat.

The designer offers a unique look that is part French fashion house Georges Borge’s and part Italian brand Rosetta’s. Miu Miu drew its inspiration from the vibrant colours of the French and Italian countryside.

The result is a gorgeous dress that will have you wanting to wear it for special occasions such as parties and gatherings. Whether you’re a seasoned traveler or you’ve never left the UK, Miu Miu’s exotic print dress will draw inspiration from your travels and make you feel like a celebrity. The dress will make you feel like you’ve stepped straight out of a vintage fashion magazine.

Festival Style

Festival style is one of the biggest trends this year and it’s something that I’d put down to the success of this year’s music festivals. Fashion houses have taken the opportunity to indulge in a world of exciting prints, bold colors, and oversized accessories.

I’m a big fan of a good festival outfit as much as the next person. The opportunity to indulge in some fashion exhibitionism and express your individuality with an outfit that will have others talking is one of the attractions that a festival offers. Of course, the music is another important part of any festival experience and the clothing and accessories associated with dance and pop festivals will have you feeling like a million bucks.

I’d like to see more fashion houses experiment with different ways of displaying the band logo or motif on garments. It would be great to see more luxury brands and labels offer exclusive festivals outfits that you can’t get elsewhere. Plus, you never know who you might meet at a festival – a movie star, a politician, or a celebrity – and getting to dress them would make it all worth it.

I think that in the next few years, we will continue to see brands and designers take inspiration from the great British countryside and offer up fashionable garments in larger sizes to make you feel like a king or queen when the sun goes down.

What are your thoughts on this year’s trends? Are you taking inspiration from any of these pieces of design?
