Adriana Lima

Most people know what a Victoria’s Secret model looks like. That’s what we’re used to seeing on our screens every single day. However, not too many people know what a Victoria’s Secret model actually sounds like. Well, Adriana Lima is here to fix that. She’s a successful businesswoman, model, and activist. She has a great sense of humor, too. So, if you want to hear what a Victoria’s Secret model sounds like, check out this interview.

When Did You Discover Your Voice?

I’ve always known what my voice sounds like. From a very young age, I would sit with my mom and listen to her talk on the phone. Even then, I would ask questions about what she was saying. So, I think it’s safe to assume that I knew what my voice sounded like even before I knew what a Victoria’s Secret model looked like. It’s funny how your life can be changed by something as simple as a telephone call. When my mom asked me if I wanted to be a model when I grew up, I had no idea what that meant. At the time, I just wanted attention. She noticed that I was always quiet in school and started talking to someone about me being a model. I didn’t know what that was, but I said yes, because anything seemed better than sitting in class with my head in a book.

How Did You Come To Be A Model?

I started walking at a very young age. When I was 5 years old, my parents took me to my first modeling event. It was during a very popular fashion show. Back then, the producers would choose children’s sizes and try to match the outfits to the children. So, for this particular show, the producers wanted a little girl to model a matching set of outfits for a man. Since I was the only girl standing in line to get my picture taken with the man, they asked if I wanted to be in the show. Of course, I said yes. It was very exciting! That’s when I knew what modeling was. It was a lot of walking and standing still for a camera. So, even back then, I knew my body type was quite compatible with being a model. I guess you could say that fashion played a big role in my life. It still does.

Who Is Your Fashion Influence?

My fashion influence changes as my style does. Sometimes, I find myself looking at a really cool fashion Instagram account and think, “Wow, what an inspiration!” Then, after a while, I’ll look at the account again and think, “That person doesn’t even know how to style a dress.”” So, it goes both ways. Sometimes, I’ll find an account that really inspires me and makes me think, “Oh my gosh, this is what I’ve always dreamed of!” Then, there are times when I’ll look at an account that makes me think, “No, that’s not fair. Why is this person getting all the credit for my style when it’s really me?”” I think we all go through this. Fashion influences us, but we don’t always see it as a positive thing. When you’re a celebrity style blogger, this can be even more difficult. People expect a lot from you. So, it’s easy for your style to be credited to someone else. This is why I love having a diverse group of fashion influencers. It’s nice to have different perspectives when it comes to fashion. You can have an influencer tell you what they love about your fashion choices and an influencer voice how they feel about your body type. This way, you get a fuller picture of how your style influences people and vice versa.

Give Us A Brief Bio About Yourself.

I was born in Lima, Peru, but moved to the United States when I was 2 years old. I’ve always known what my voice sounded like, even when I was a kid. When I was 12, I started modeling. Then, when I was 14, I moved to New York City to live with my sister. I started attending Columbia University, where I earned my B.A. in economics and management. I’ve always wanted to be a businesswoman. With my modeling experience and my love for fashion, it was only a matter of time before I started my own label. In 2017, I launched my clothing line called Arpels, which stands for “Adriana’s Project. Endlessly Beautiful.” I’ve been working very hard to make sure that my clothes are of good quality. I want people to feel confident enough to wear my clothes and feel like a new person once they step out of the front door. So far, everything has been going well. I’ve been able to meet a lot of wonderful people and make a lot of connections. Now, I’m hoping that this will all pay off and that people will love my clothes as much as I do.

Your Style Is Influenced By…

Everyone has an influence in their life. Sometimes, these influences are good and other times, bad. For me, fashion is a combination of both. I never want to copy anyone or anything specifically because I think what makes a style strong is its uniqueness. For the most part, I feel that my style is a mixture of everything I’ve ever loved, from vintage to contemporary. There’s a lot of Nicola Formichella in me, which is a designer from Florence. I also get a lot of Zaha Hadid in me, which is an Iraqi-British architect. When I put on an outfit, I want to feel like no one else. I want you to look at me and think, “There’s no one else like her.”” This is why fashion is such a powerful tool. Not only does it influence our look, but it also influences how we feel and act. So, it’s not just about what we wear, but it’s about who we are as people.

Now, let’s get into the important stuff. First of all, what is your style?

What Do You Think Your Style Is?

My style is definitely on the eclectic side. However, I would say that I lean more towards the classic side. This might mean that I like to keep things simple yet elegant or that I like to choose pieces that speak for themselves rather than having a lot of different textures and colors blended together. So, it really depends on the occasion. Sometimes, I’ll wear a colorful outfit and other times, I’ll choose black or white.

How Do You Feel Your Body Types Influence Your Style?

This question is quite tricky, because I feel like there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to style. However, I would say that my body types influence my style in a good way. For example, I feel that my petite frame makes me want to choose minis and small accessories to make the most of my limited space. So, for me, style and fashion are not only about what you wear, but they’re also about how you wear it. Sometimes, I’ll embellish details like a brooch or a sturdier necklace to make the most of my petite frame. This is also why I love to mix different types of clothing when I wear them together. For example, I would wear a skirt with some classic black-and-white polka dots with a simple white blouse and a golden ring for an accent piece. This is something that I do out of habit. When I put this outfit together, it’s like a little celebration. It feels good to wear something that makes you feel like a total genius because you know exactly what piece of clothing it is and where you got it from.

What Is Your Favorite Fashion Memory?

This is such an easy question to answer. I love going into malls and looking at women’s clothing. It’s the epitome of luxury and freedom. Going into a mall and being able to walk around, looking at all the different pieces of clothing that women have is very exciting. It’s like a treasure hunt. Sometimes, I’ll even go into a store and ask the saleswoman questions about the style and the fit. It’s really fun.

How Do You Feel About Trends In Fashion?

I feel that trends come and go. Some things never go out of style, while other things are temporary fads that people follow for a while and then leave behind. Fashion is a very cyclical industry. It can be difficult to keep up with all the trends, but it’s all about having the courage to go out on a limb and try something new. If someone had told me when I was a kid that there would one day be a style called “burlesque,” I wouldn’t have believed them. But, here we are.
